Sustainability at the University of Alberta
The University of Alberta is committed to a continuous effort to instill sustainability into the many aspects of university life, on our campuses, in our institutions, and in the larger community of which we are part. In alignment with its values, vision and mission, the University takes an integrated approach to sustainability that incorporates teaching and learning, research, outreach, and the operations that support them, as it builds one of the great universities for the public good. The University strives to manage all resources in harmony, recognizing the interconnectedness of ecological, social and economic systems.
The CONNECT Conference achieves Green Spaces Silver certification
The CONNECT Conference has achieved Green Spaces Silver certification through the Green Spaces Certification program. The conference has demonstrated solid performance under all the categories and has identified creative innovative actions (e.g. water towers, conference specific swipe technology for registration and door prizes, etc).
The Green Spaces Certification Program helps event planners adopt sustainable practices and earn recognition for their efforts. Any event or conference at the University of Alberta can be certified as a Green Event. Organizers commit to completing sustainable actions during the course of the event and attendees are encouraged to take personal actions that will help reduce the overall impact of the event.
What are some actions you can take? Actions include anything from collecting organic waste at lunch, providing tap water to speakers, or choosing a venue close to public transit.
